‘The Global Civic Policy Society held its Official Launch on Thursday, November 5 at 12 o’clock noon. The MC was Mike Harcourt, Former Premier of the Province of British Columbia. Mr. Harcourt has taken a leading role in the country for advocating for the sustainability of cities.
Speakers at the Official Launch included Professor John Clague of Simon Fraser University, Professor Lawrence Frank of UBC, Professor Patrick Condon also of UBC. They discussed research projects that Global Civic has an interest in. Bruno Freschi former Dean of Architecture in New York University and former Chief Architect of Expo 86 presented on his project imagining the future of our region. Rick Scobie, former Co-director of Planning, Director of Development Services and Subdivision Approving Officer of the City of Vancouver described a project he has taken on at the request of the Society. Edward Standford of Urban Systems flew in from Fort St. John to describe his experience with Global Civic while Tung Chan, Executive Director of British Columbia’s largest immigrant service Society SUCCESS spoke about the Global Civic Youth Program.
There were 250 guests as well as media on hand for some significant funding announcements. The Borealis Quartet played for those assembled.
