The Vancouver Urban Forum is produced by the Global Civic Policy Society. It is not affiliated with any government, academic institution or corporation but is a social sector initiative. The Global Civic Policy Society has a mandate of “More Knowledgeable Citizens, Healthier Cities”. It hosts Public Salons four times a year which features short presentations from thinkers and doers of Vancouver. It has a 1/2 hour Public Salon Television Show on the community-based Shaw TV Channel 4. It also contributes to multiculturalism through hosting Greeting Fluency Sessions which feature the experiences and ideas of new Canadians and encourages citizens to learn a few phrases of greetings in the languages of their neighbors.
The Global Civic Policy Society was founded by Sam Sullivan and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Sam Sullivan received the Order of Canada for his community work in the social sector. He also served as Mayor and City Councillor of Vancouver between 1993 to 2006. He is currently Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
